Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte said the City Government of Davao will send financial assistance to those affected by tropical storm Kristine in Bicol.

This is not the first time that Davao City sent aid to areas affected by natural calamities.

In August this year, the city provided financial assistance to areas hit by typhoon Carina in the National Capital Region and in February, P6.1 million from its quick response fund was allocated to 15 local government units in the regions of Davao and Caraga that were affected by disasters.

“Dili man nga naga expect gyud ta kung himoon man gud nato na maybe it will serve as an example for other LGUs. Sila pud pag naa sila’y ikahatag bisan gamay lang kay magtinabangay man gud ning usa ka nasud, dili man ta mu-survive ug mutuyok ang kalibutan kung magkanya kanya ta. Usa ta ka nasud, Pilipino tang tanan. Praktis na siya nga its the right thing to do,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, the mayor shied away from criticizing the Marcos administration following the online criticisms against the administration for its alleged incompetence, ineffectiveness, and inconsistency in responding during the onslaught of tropical storm Kristine in Bicol on October 24.

As of Monday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the tropical cyclone left 116 people dead, with 109 others injured, and 38 still missing. These figures are still being validated.
