DCWD announces free water on Nov. 9

The Davao City Water District (DCWD) announced that water consumption on November 9 will be free to all residential customers, whose homes were installed with one-half-inch meter pipes.

“We understand kay during November labaw na pag panahon sa kalag kalag and it falls on a weekend daghan kaayo ang mugawas sa syudad and then naay mabilin ana nga labhunon, ang mga balay wala nalimpyuhan, so timing kaayo pagbalik nila the next weekend diara na nila atimanon ang labhunon, ang mga nabilin na hinlo-unon,” said DCWD spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, during I-Speak Media Forum on Thursday.

Duhaylungsod said this is in line with the water utility’s “Libreng Tubig Promo” in time for its anniversary next month.

“Silbing pasalamat sa suporta nga gihatag sa mga Dabawenyos sa atoang operation more than 50 years. Looking forward for another 50 years sa service sa DCWD and what better way to do that is to provide free water to our customers even just for one day,” she said.

Duhaylungsod said the Libreng Tubig Promo is a milestone offering in water service provision and one that the Dabawenyos can take pride in as it is a rare, if not the only, initiative that gives one-day water consumption for free in the country.

The substantial enhancement of DCWD’s water service, which uses both surface and groundwater sources to promote climate resilience in its operations, has made the offer feasible.

“DCWD projects increased water consumption on November 9, as it is the Saturday following a long weekend with the upcoming All Saints’ Day holiday. Based on the trend, most residences will schedule their laundry, house cleaning, and other water-extensive domestic uses for the weekend following a long weekend. Thus, with the promo offer, customers need not worry about their consumption,” said Duhaylungsod.
