There is no end to a Duterte-Nograles feud in politics.

In yet another chapter of a heated political rivalry, former Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Karlo Alexei Nograles and son of the late former Speaker Prospero “Boy“ Nograles is challenging former President Rodrigo Duterte for the mayoralty race in Davao City.

His sister, PBA Partylist representative Margarita Ignacia “Migs” Nograles also filed her COC for representative of the First District of Davao City on Tuesday.

Nograles will face incumbent congressman Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte.

Nograles confirmed speculations that he will face head-on with a Duterte in a mayoralty race in Davao City after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office at Magsaysay Park in Davao City on Tuesday.

Nograles formally announced his decision to vie for the position on a platform of choice, chance, and change.

“Yes, I filed my certificate of candidacy aron makahatag kita ug choice sa Davao. Kitang mga taga Davao, deserve nato ang atong choice, makapili kung kinsa ang atong gusto, dili kanang no choice na lang ta pirmi. Davao and Dabawenyos deserve a meaningful and lasting change,” he told the media.

He also said that the clamor of his family and supporters also prompted him to run against the Dutertes in the 2025 midterm elections.

“Sa tinuod lang kining desisyon daghan ang nagasuporta, daghan ang nagtext, it was not an easy decision, maraming sumusuporta, maraming nagconvince sa akin para makahatag ta ug choice sa Davao, para makahatag ta ug chance sa Davao, para dunay mapilian ang mga taga Davao, adunay kahigayunan, ug adunay kabag-ohan,” he said.

Migs Nograles vowed continuity of the programs started by her late father and the PBA Partylist.

“Ang PBA ay nandun at hindi tayo nawala sa first district but now syempre mas focus nata sa atoang pwedeng mabuhat like I said continuity na serbisyo sa mga tao, keep the best practices, improve on those that need to be improved, and mas maraming sectors na pwedeng matulungan na programa at mga projects like infrastructure,” she said in an interview.

Meanwhile, First District Councilor Bernie Al-ag filed his COC for vice mayor of Davao City on the same day.

Al-ag will be the running mate of Karlo Nograles.

Al-ag emphasized the need for a partnership between the city government of Davao and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in fighting the proliferation of illegal drugs in Davao City.

“As we all know daghan ang problema sa Davao karon and you can confirm that with the Regional Trial Court. Grabe gatapun-og ang kaso sa drugs so I think there must be a strong partnership with the PNP and the local government kay kung mag-away ning PNP and the LGU we cannot solve the problem,” he said.
