Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte showed his support by accompanying the incumbent and newbie candidates for councilors in their filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) running under Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL), Hugpong Ng Pagbabago (HNP), and Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP).
Rigo, who was representing his father, Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, said this is to show that the Duterte family will not abandon them.
“Mao ako silang giubanan on behalf sa akong amahan,” he said.
Candidates running for city councilors under HTL, HNP, and PDP are Ragde Nino Ibuyan (HTL), Bonz Andre Militar (HTL), Temujin “Tek” Ocampo (HTL), TJ Braga Corsino (HTL), incumbent vice mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. (HTL), Pamela Librado (HTL), Jessica Bonguyan (HTL), Luna Maria Dominique Acosta-Manlitoc (HNP), Al Ryan Alejandre (HTL), Louie John Bonguyan Jr. (HTL), Jimmy Dureza (PDP), Allan Simo-ag (PDP), Doce Laude Apostol (PDP), Jonard Dayap (HTL), Danilo Dayanghirang (HTL), Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Jr. (HTL), Nilo Cabiles (PDP), Maja Lakambini Enriquez (PDP), and Richlyn Justol-Baguilod (HTL).
On October 2, 2024, Rigo filed his COC for council seat of the First District at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) field office in Davao City. He was accompanied by his wife Yssa, his father, and his older brother, Buhangin Barangay Captain Omar Duterte.
Rigo also accompanied his family: his grandfather, former President Rodrigo Duterte who is running for mayor; uncle, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, who is running for vice mayor; and Omar, who is seeking a congressional seat for the Second District, in filing their COCs last October 7.
A neophyte in the political arena, Rigo said that he is ready to serve the Dabawenyos.
He also said that while helping the First Congressional District Office of Rep. Pulong, he realized the importance of serving the Dabawenyos.
Showing support to supporters and allies is the kind of brand that makes the Dutertes well-loved.
To recall, the former president has flown to Manila to show support and endorse PDP candidates and allies namely Senators Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa and Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go; Congressman Rodante Marcoleta, Atty. Jimmy Bondoc, Atty. Jayvee Hinlo, Atty. Vic Rodriguez and Philip Salvador.
For the party list, the former president endorsed Epanaw Sambayanan party list nominee Dr. Lorraine Badoy; and for Manila 3rd District councilor, Margaux “Mocha” Uson.
