A bill increasing the current bed capacity of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) has been approved by the lower committee of the Senate, an official said on Monday.
Dr. Ricardo Audan, SPMC medical chief, said in an interview that they have proposed the increase of the hospital’s bed capacity from the current 1,500 to 2,000 through Senate Bill 1119.
“Approved na sa first reading at the lower committee of the Senate. That is the reason why nag-anticipate nako pag abot sa bag-ong building because ang sa among bag-ong building mu-increase mi ug 675 beds,” Audan said.
According to Audan, currently, SPMC has a 1,500-bed capacity, and yet the hospital is catering 1,800 to 1,900 patients a day.
“That is why nag-propose mi ug increase for bed capacity na approve na sa lower committee,” he said.
SPMC is considered the largest hospital in Mindanao catering to patients even from outside of Davao City.
Additionally, it takes pride in being a specialist hospital on par with the large hospitals in the National Capital Area.
Audan also announced that SPMC already received its notice of award to build a four-story modern parking space with elevator and is expected to accommodate 160 vehicles.
