The 20th City Council of Davao under the helm of Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. showcased landmark ordinances and resolutions accomplished in October this year.
Among the important ordinances approved by the City Council was the Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service of BUCAS (Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services) Center in Marilog District Hospital. This ordinance was strengthened with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the city government of Davao and the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
The BUCAS Center is part of DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa’s “28 for 28 by 28” initiative to help fulfill his 8-Point Action Agenda for Health, targeting the establishment of at least 28 BUCAS Centers to serve the 28 million Filipinos most in need of accessible and quality healthcare services by 2028.
In July this year, Dr. Anabelle P. Yumang, Regional Director of DOH-Davao, announced that two BUCAS centers in Davao Regional Medical Center are now functional, the Tagum City Health Office in Davao del Norte and the Davao Occidental General Hospital in Malita, Davao Occidental.
Another ordinance approved by the City Council was in relation to the local and international Sister City Agreements in Davao City with the municipality of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur and Hamamatsu City in Japan.
According to the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC), these Sister City Agreements foster solidarity and cooperation which are integral to mutual growth and development.
A corollary resolution from a privilege speech was approved by the City Council urging the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT), City Traffic and Transportation Management Office (CTTMO), and the Business Bureau to grant a six-month moratorium on van terminals in Davao City wherein operators and drivers are urged to just comply with several permits.
The resolution aims to cater to the continuing increase in the influx of passengers in and out of Davao City.
Meanwhile, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) was created for Therma South Incorporated (TSI), Aboitiz Foundation, (AFI) Inc., and the city government of Davao in providing livelihood projects for the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Paquibato District.
Also approved under the corollary resolution was honoring the teachers of Davao City for their hard work and enthusiasm to teach the children well.
The City Council dedicated the resolution for the National Teachers’ Month 2024 celebration last month.
The City Council also passed a resolution congratulating and commending the Crocs Football Club of Davao for emerging as champions in the La Liga Youth Tournament 2024 last month in Capas, Tarlac.
