The National Bureau of Investigation 11 (NBI 11) is investigating a “well-connected” individual for illegal quarrying operations in Tamugan River, Barangay Tamugan, Marilog District in Davao City.
This developed after operatives of NBI 11 arrested 13 individuals in violation of R.A. 7942 for conducting illegal quarrying activities in Marilog on Monday.
In a press conference on Tuesday, NBI 11 spokesperson Ely Leaño refused to identify the operator of the quarry site as the agency is still conducting deeper investigation.
“We cannot disclose the identity of the person behind this illegal quarrying. Kasi when we hatched the interdiction and arrest, he was not in the quarrying site. Pero we look at him as well-connected because he had been operating for quite sometime and there was no time that he was interrupted or being prevented in his operations,” Leaño said.
Leaño said the illegal quarrying had been operating for more than a year now.
According to him, NBI 11 has strong evidence that would link and connect this “well-connected” individual as the one responsible for all the illegal quarrying activities in Tamugan River.
“Pero in the next few weeks you will know (identity),” Leaño said.
Leaño said the interdiction and arrest operation was an offshoot upon the request of the regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR 11).
During the operation NBI 11 confiscated heavy equipment including two dump trucks and a backhoe.
