Organic coffee and cacao products showcase set

To enable Dabawenyos to get to know more about the city’s organic products, coops offer a free tasting of tableya and coffee at Rizal Park on November 22, 2024.

This will be held alongside the culmination program for the month-long celebration of Organic Agriculture Month.

Jeana Ablen, City Agriculturist Office Focal Person for Organic Agriculture, told Madayaw that two cooperatives have expressed interest in showcasing their organic products.

These are the Sibulan Ancestral Domain Organic Producer Cooperative (SaDoPCo), which will showcase coffee, and the Saloy Organic Farmers Association (SOFA) which will showcase its globally acclaimed tableya.

SOFA’s cacao beans, in partnership with Auro Chocolate, received a global silver award at the Cacao Excellence Awards during the Chocoa Trade Fair of the Amsterdam Cocoa and Chocolate Week in The Netherlands on February 8, 2024.

Ablen said that based on their office’s registry, the city currently has six organic cooperatives with a total of 195 members and a coverage area of 115. 62 hectares.

Every week, Davao City organic farmers showcase their vegetables, fruits, and other value-added organic products at Rizal Park.

She said that their office continues to conduct activities that enable Dabawenyos to become more aware of the benefits of organic farming.

Select schools were visited by Cagro this month for orientation on organic agriculture. They have also conducted orientations about food safety and basic protocols for biosecurity for farmers.

“Ang atong campaign for organic farming gipahingusgan gyud na siya (We strengthen our campaign on organic farming)” Ablen said. CIO
