SSS enhances security in My SSS portal

The Social Security System (SSS) is calling on its members to update their contact information to ensure smooth access to their accounts when the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on its My.SSS Portal is completed.

In a news release Wednesday, SSS officer in charge Voltaire Agas said the agency is enhancing the security of its online portal amid the proliferation of online fraud.

The new authentication process will require members to input a passcode sent to their registered mobile numbers whenever they log in to their My.SSS account, Agas said.

This additional security measure is part of SSS’ effort to protect members from potential unauthorized access and fraud.

He said outdated or inactive contact information can cause difficulty when logging into the portal.

“Updating your contact info ensures you get the codes to verify your identity when you sign in to your online account, hence, we are urging our members to update their contact information,” he said.

There are two options available for members to update their information: online via their My.SSS account, or by visiting any SSS branch.

Agas said mobile numbers in the SSS database that are no longer active may be updated online.

However, those without a mobile number in the system must submit a properly completed Member Data Change Request form at any SSS branch.

Meanwhile, members who struggle with the My.SSS Portal should visit the e-centers in the SSS branch offices.

“We have established e-centers manned by SSS personnel who are ready to assist and guide you in using the My.SSS Portal,” he said.

SSS Senior Vice President for Information Technology Management Maria Belinda San Jose said there are two authentication methods available for My.SSS Portal users: the SMS One-Time Password (SMS-OTP) and the Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP).

By default, members will use SMS-OTP, receiving a six-digit passcode sent to their registered mobile number each time they log in.

Members may choose TOTP, which generates a verification code through the Google Authenticator app.

San Jose said multi-factor authentication options are designed to enhance the portal’s security, reducing the risks of unauthorized access and potential fraud. (PNA)
