Christmas costumes, floats highlight Mugna, Parada sa Pasko 2024

Davao City turned into a picture-perfect setting on Sunday, December 15, as Christmas-inspired costumes and floats paraded the streets from Roxas Avenue to San Pedro during the Mugna and Parada sa Pasko 2024.

Participants in the Mugna and Parada sa Pasko took the streets while dressed in festive costumes together with Christmas-themed floats.

Among the 11 contingents vying for the ultimate prize, the All Works Technique Canvas Supply (AWTCS) Ornaments of Wonder emerged victorious in this year’s Mugna sa Pasko competition.

The Christmas Village and Its Festive Ornaments came in second, while the Yuletide Angels came in third.

The winner received a plaque and P100,000, while the second and third placers received plaques and P75,000 and P50,000, respectively. The eight non-winners each received P25,000 consolation prize.

The Fantasy Land from the Group of Artists was named winner in the Parada sa Pasko competition, receiving a trophy and P400,000 in cash.

Second place went to SK Riverside’s Candy Wonderland, and third place went to Tagum Artist’s Christmas Village Candy Land. A trophy and P250,000 and P150,000 were awarded to the second and third-place finishers, respectively.

A consolation prize of P50,000 was also given to the non-winners.

City Tourism Operations Office Head Jennifer Romero, in an interview with Madayaw Dabaw, said the Mugna sa Pasko was added to this year’s activities to make Pasko Fiesta more spectacular.

“Naa ta’y gidagdag nga Mugna sa Pasko Fiesta. Last year, wala ni siya (We have added Mugna at Pasko Fiesta. It was not part of the activities last year),” she said.

She also said the activities were meant to show the Dabawenyos’ unity in the Christmas season.

“Maayo pod ni siya nga (This is a good) opportunity that everybody will be collaborating for artistry and the celebration of the Pasko Fiesta 2024,” she said.

Many Dabawenyos witnessed the parade, which featured not only various floats and Christmas-inspired costumes but also the music and marching band of the Banda Dasig performers. CIO
