The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Monday reported that the first day of the traditional Simbang Gabi in Davao City was generally peaceful.

DCPO spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon told Edge Davao that there were no recorded untoward incidents.

In San Pedro Cathedral, the dawn mass was officiated by Archbishop Romulo G. Valles.

After the mass, churchgoers flocked to the San Pedro Square which was teeming with stalls selling Filipino “kakanin” such as puto bumbong, puto maya, sikwate, arroz caldo, and many more.

The DCPO earlier announced that it would be deploying about 1,013 police personnel to secure the 43 major churches in the city for the start of the dawn masses.

Meanwhile, Tuazon also reported that the holding of the Banda Dasig, Mugna, and Parada sa Pasko Fiesta on Sunday, which are among the highlights of the monthlong Pasko Fiesta sa Davao 2024, was peaceful.

“As of this report, the celebration of the Pasko Fiesta 2024 remains generally peaceful and normal,” she said.
