The City Government of Davao through the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) thanked residents for their cooperation and immediate compliance with preemptive evacuation orders and safety protocols during the flooding incident, which affected some parts of Davao City on Saturday evening.
“Nagpasalamat mi sa mga Dabawenyos sa pagsunod sa preemptive evacuation protocols nato. Ang pagsunod ninyo sa balaod dakong butang aron luwas ang tanan sa panahon sa pagbaha (Our heartfelt thanks go to all Dabawenyos for following our preemptive evacuation protocols. Your compliance with the law is a significant factor in ensuring everyone’s safety during flooding incidents),” said CDRRMO Chief Alfredo Baloran.
Heavy downpours caused by localized thunderstorms were experienced on January 4, causing street flooding in some parts of the city including Matina Crossing, Aplaya and Pangi.
The CDRRMO deployed rescue teams, including BDRRMC, volunteer groups and members of the city’s emergency response clusters, to assist affected residents to designated evacuation centers. Meanwhile, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Health Office and City Mayor’s Office were also deployed in the centers to provide immediate assistance like hot meals and medical services.
According to initial reports, no casualties were recorded.
Currently, the CDRRMO continues to monitor weather conditions and has advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert as scattered rains are expected in the coming days.
“We encourage everyone to stay updated on weather advisories and prioritize safety above all else,” Baloran added. CIO
