CDRRMO to conduct trainings, SIMEX in 2025

To enhance disaster management capabilities, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will be holding more trainings and Simulation Exercises (SIMEX) this year.

CDRRMO Training Division acting head Lyndon Ancajas told the City Information Office that Dabawenyos should expect additional trainings this year.

He said that in the past two years, the CDRRMO held 511 training sessions and exercises. A total of 303 trainings were conducted in 2024, surpassing the 208 held in 2023. In 2024, over 100 drills were also carried out.

He said the trainings conducted cover all aspects of preventive and protective measures, preparedness, and rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations, among others.

He said the trainings are intended for communities, which include workplaces, schools, private organizations, and even the Barangay Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC).

“Ang atoang pinakataas nga level nga capacity-building activity is pagpahigayon og Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) (Our simulation exercise (SIMEX) is our most advanced capacity-building activity),” he said.

He said the city-level SIMEX had a significant impact on Dabawenyos’ readiness and awareness, particularly on what to do in the event of a disaster.

He said they are also looking forward to doing SIMEX in Lasang and Bunawan this year.

Another citywide earthquake and tsunami simulation exercise will take place at a new site in July, Ancajas said.

“Kato’ng mga gina-practice nato nga sa Crocodile Park ta ma-makwit tanan, karon we will look for another area kay what if diay pag-abot nato’g crocodile park puno na og tao so at least naa ta’y alternate. So we will try another one (The practice that we had where we will all evacuate to the Crocodile Park, we will now search for a different location in case the park is already packed, so at least we have an alternative place. So we’ll try another one),” he said.

He said Dabawenyos may also request a free training session by writing a letter to their office. CIO
