Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. on Tuesday disclosed that the 20th City Council has no backlog on ordinances and resolutions in 2024.

Quitain explained that the City Council does not have unfinished items to be deliberated in 2025 coming from 2024 as they made sure that before the year ends they have finished everything to avoid backlog.

“So far so good we have everybody performed their assigned task which is to craft ordinances, take care of the items endorsed to their respective committees, and do it on time. We are not after here for speed. I am more concerned with the quality because if you do it so fast you will sacrifice quality. Quality over the swiftness of the committee report,” Quitain said during Aprubado sa Konsedo Media Forum at the Councilor’s Lounge.

According to him, when it comes to the performance of the City Council in 2024, it was good as everybody has done their job effectively, and they are just waiting for new items to arrive for 2025.

“Expect the agenda for the session to be not so much content as we are still waiting for the new items to arrive which simply means all the items for 2022, 2023, and 2024 were all finished. Sana may dumating pa na items para mas marami pa kaming gawin,” he said.

Quitain said new items to be deliberated will be coming in for the first reading.

“We have already performed so much in the 2024 calendar year for the 20th City Council and we look forward to this new year 2025, hopefully, we will be able to contribute more to the welfare of the City of Davao pertaining to the passage of ordinances and resolutions necessary,” said Majority Floor Leader Councilor Jesus Joseph Zozobrado III.

Meanwhile, Quitain said among the goals of the City Council is to further the improvements and renovations in the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) building and the latest will be the taxpayer’s lounge where the Business Bureau and the Local Civil Registry (LCR) are located.

“Medyo luma na ang hitsura so we will renovate that. Change everything, improve the air conditioning system, the flooring, the walls, and the ceiling to make it more comfortable for all Dabawenyos transacting at these offices. We can start with that. Also, the comfort rooms. There is already a budget to renovate the comfort rooms, particularly in the lobby of the SP building,” he said.

With regards to the parking area in the basement, Quitain said it still has no allocation.
