The City Government of Davao has turned over a new baggage x-ray machine to the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) to further strengthen the safety and security of passengers going to and from the city.
The new baggage scanner was installed in the passenger entrance of the terminal and is now operational.
The machine has a capacity of around 150 to 200 kilograms, and can detect both organic and inorganic materials including those that are not allowed in the terminal such as sharp objects, firearms, ammunition, and other illegal objects.
It is also faster than the old scanner in the passenger entrance that is currently unavailable.
Aisa Usop, DCOTT Manager, in an interview with the City Information Office (CIO), said the new x-ray machine will make baggage inspections more thorough and efficient.
“First is mapaspas ang pagsulod sa atoang mga pasahero. Second, ang kaning baggage scanner man gud lahi ra gyud (kaysa) kung manual kay very sensitive so makit-an gyud kung unsa ang naa sa sulod sa mga bagahe nga ginasulod sa atoang mga pasahero (Firstly, with the new machine, passenger entrance will be smoother. The scanner is also more sensitive and efficient compared to manual inspections as it can easily inspect and detect the contents of passenger baggage),” she said.
Usop added that the new baggage x-ray machine is a big help to the Task Force Davao, the City Security Unit (CSU), and police personnel manning the entrance of the terminal.
She also expressed her gratitude to the City Mayor for providing the terminal with a new and improved baggage x-ray machine.
The DCOTT management also assured Dabawenyos that although the machine is yet to be operational, they continue to implement strict security protocols for the safety of the passengers.
“We are very particular when it comes to the security measures, security implementation, that is why we have the men in uniform including the Task Force Davao, atoang kapulisan, atoang CSU.
