Chamber of Real Estate Builders Association (CREBA) Davao Chapter Chairman Diosdado Mahipus Sr. said real estate remains a sunrise industry in Davao City.
CREBA Davao Chapter represents the city’s leading real estate developers, builders, and stakeholders.
“As a matter of fact, seeing how the real estate industry is going, it is still a sunrise industry, marami pa ring gustong sumali at mag develop dito sa Davao City,” Mahipus said in a press conference during CREBA Davao Chapter’s General Membership Meeting (GMM) at the Grand Regal Hotel on Monday.
Mahipus said among the indicators are the 15 pending housing development applications at the City Council of Davao.
“These are mid-range housing projects,” he said.
Mahipus also said that the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the National Housing Authority (NHA) are also planning to sponsor projects in Davao City.
“These indicators tell us that hindi pa sunset ang real estate industry sa Davao City and also we are looking at eight condominium developments in Davao City,” he said.
Mahipus mentioned Aeon Towers have two ongoing and two pending projects, Dusit Thani is also waiting for the approval of their development permit, and the joint venture project of Ayala Land and Damosa Land Inc. (DLI) in Marapangi, Toril.
Jarvie Harlem Gantalao, president of CREBA Davao Chapter, said this year there will be more hotel openings in Davao City.
“Look at now, the real estate landscape in Davao City, even in Tugbok Calinan, in Toril, there are thriving communities that continue to rise. Davao City is getting bigger as we move on and international stakeholders are also coming in,” he said.
Gantalao added that with the completion of the infrastructure projects, more real estate investors and stakeholders will come in.
“We consider it as a vibrant industry and everybody is excited. It is a given fact that Davao City has been listed as one of the most livable cities in our country and Asia. This is still being believed by many investors most especially those from the local industry,” Mahipus said.
Mahipus added that this is a big leap for Davao City because of the shortage of residential houses in the city.
“Mind you, our city is the heart of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and Mindanao and the safest place to stay contrary to reports that we are no longer safe. We are still the safest city in terms of peace and order and business stability. We are very thankful about it,” Mahipus said.
Gantalao said it is also the goal of the group to help investors come to the city to generate more employment.
“As the handmaid of the city government of Davao, our first act is to help the city government of Davao to encourage stakeholders and investors and on the part of the city government, all they have to do is prepare Davao City for future developments,” Gantalao said.
CREBA also advocates for policies promoting sustainable urban development and affordable housing.
