The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-Davao) and the City Health Office (CHO) conveyed DOH’s statement on the alleged new international health concern that is circulating on social media.
In a statement, the DOH states that the new health concern is not yet confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
This developed after claims about a new epidemic allegedly overwhelming hospitals and crematories in China involving influenza A, HMPV, mycoplasma pneumonia, and Covid-19 is making rounds online.
According to DOH, reliable sources currently do not support circulating posts on social media about an alleged international health concern.
“There is no confirmation from either the cited country or the World Health Organization (WHO),” it said.
DOH also said that the Philippines through the said department is an active participant in the network of WHO Member States that follow the International Health Regulations (IHR).
“This established system is what gives reliable updates about international health concerns. Philippine disease surveillance systems are in place and working. The DOH is actively verifying all information, and will keep the Filipino public updated,” it said.
DOH appealed to the public not to share questionable websites or online sources and refrain from spreading misinformation that causes confusion.
