Free medicines to combat Leptospirosis offered in 19 district offices of CHO

The Davao City Health Office continues to offer free prophylaxis medicines for those who are exposed to flood waters and are at high risk of exposure to Leptospirosis.

Based on the information from CHO, these medicines are available in the 18 health districts of CHO.

The CHO has warned the public anew about contracting Leptospirosis as the city may experience flooding incidents during the rainy season.

In a public service announcement last week, the CHO re-issued its information education materials about Leptospirosis, a blood infection caused by the Leptospira bacterium passed by rodents and other animals through their urine. When infected rodent urine mixes with flood waters, the bacteria could enter the human body through cuts, open skin, eyes, nose and mouth.

The bacteria can cause fever, headache, rashes, shivers, diarrhea, body pain, redness of eyes, and even death.

The CHO continues to encourage the community to conduct regular cleaning activities in order to stop the proliferation of rodents and also to conduct regular clean-up drives such as declogging of creeks and canals. CIO
