OVP extends aid to flood, landslide victims in DavOcc

Flood and landslide victims in Davao Occidental has received assistance from the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

Flooding and landslides occurred in some municipalities of Davao Occidental on December 26, 2024 due to continuous rains brought about by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

According to the Office of the Civil Defense 11 (OCD 11), the town of Malita was the hardest hit as 24 villages were reportedly flooded during the peak of the severe rains on December 26 and this affected 9,058 households or 33,607 individuals.

The affected families and their relatives are currently and temporarily staying in eight evacuation centers in Malita.

The OVP-Southern Mindanao Satellite Office (OVP-SMSO) distributed 251 relief boxes and other donated items to the victims.

Muslim families who were affected by flooding and landslides in Brgy. Lower Balas in Malita also received rice.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Davao Occidental Office expressed gratitude for the assistance.

OCD 11 reported that the towns of Malita and Don Marcelino have been placed under a state of calamity following incidents.

Based on the report of OCD 11 a total of 24,780 families in Davao Region had been affected by floods and landslides due to ITCZ.
