PSSO to put more CCTV cameras in Davao City

To bolster the security measures in Davao City, the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) will be installing more Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in Davao City this year.

PSSO Head Angel Sumagaysay, in an interview with the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio, said they will lay down fiber optics for CCTVS, covering the priority areas in Davao City, as approved by the City Mayor’s Office.

“Nakumbinse naman namo sila nga kini ang mga priority areas para butangan nato og camera. So hopefully since na submit naman, so hopefully ma-implement na nato for 2025 (We have convinced them that these are the priority areas for us to install cameras. So hopefully since it was submitted, hopefully, we can implement it for 2025),” he said.

He said fiber optic cables are presently being installed along the coastal area.

In a separate interview with the City Information Office (CIO) Sumagaysay said the expansion of CCTVs is vital for people’s safety, especially in times of disaster and to ease traffic as Davao City continues to grow.

“Developing ang Davao City, henceforth, gikinahanglan nato ni siya as our tool para malig-on pa nato ang security ng Davao City ug makatabang pod ni siya sa ato’ng safety, for instance, sa traffic and sa flooding (Davao City is growing, henceforth, we must use it as a tool to improve its security and ensure our safety, such as in the event of flooding or traffic),” he said.

Around 200 CCTVs have already been put in place throughout the city.

Sumagyasay said the CCTV cameras will be placed in both North and South areas. CIO
