Davao City continues to uphold women’s right, gender equality

The City Government of Davao, through its Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD), continues to uphold women’s rights and safety, as well as gender equality in the city through programs and services for women.

Last year, the IGDD spearheaded activities and programs for women that affirmed the city government’s commitment to address gender-related concerns; advance gender equality and celebrate women’s contribution in the society; and foster an environment where women can voice their concerns, access training opportunities, and actively participate in local governance.

A total of 206 Barangay Council of Women chairpersons and women inmates in the city participated in the 2024 Women Pre-summit where the Magna Carta for Women was assessed, and the concerns of women were discussed.

The 2024 Women Summit also highlighted critical issues affecting women, and emphasized the resilience and resourcefulness of women in overcoming challenges.

The summit is a vital platform for advocacy and progress in gender equality and empowerment.

At least 5,000 women from different sectors in the city took part in the 2024 Women’s Day Parade. During the event, the VAW Tracking System (VTS) was also launched.

The VTS is a web-based data banking and tracking system that is designed to manage and monitor the Gender-Based Violence cases that IGDD and its partner agencies are handling. The system ensures efficient case management, accurate data tracking, and a streamlined coordination among agencies while maintaining data security and accessibility.

The city also received the Gender and Development Local Learning Hub for its Magnegosyo ta Day (MTD), and Protection Against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Discrimination (PSEAD) programs from the Philippines Commission on Women in 2024.

The IGDD will also continue Gender and Development Advocacy Campaign wherein barangays are given a series of training involving basic gender and development concepts; introduction to SOGIE-SC; the Anti-violence against Women and their Children Act; GAD planning and budgeting; and men’s involvement in GAD.

The division also continues to push for initiatives that ensure that the women and children’s rights are protected through their programs including the Protection on Sexual Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Program, and Gender and Development Program.

Victims of any forms of sexual abuse, exploitation, and discrimination are also urged to reach out to the IGDD by calling 241-1000 Loc. 205 or visit their office located in Rm. 9, Mezzanine Hall of the City Hall Building; or reach out to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and other service providers.
