NBI filing complaints expected: Sara

Vice President Sara Duterte said she was not surprised that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will file complaints against her for her alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The NBI filed grave threats and inciting to sedition charges against the vice president on Wednesday

“As expected,” the vice president said in a statement released to the media on Wednesday afternoon.

This developed following the vice president’s alleged assassination threat against President Marcos Jr, First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez last year.

In Duterte’s press conference late last year she talked about contracting a person to kill the President, the First Lady, and the Speaker Martin Romualdez if their alleged plot to kill her succeeds.

Duterte also stressed that she tapped a person to “take revenge” on them.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced in a statement that it received the NBI’s complaint before the National Prosecution Service (NPS) against the vice president.

According to the DOJ, with the filing of the complaint, the case will now undergo evaluation and preliminary investigation before the NPS.

“The process will undergo case build up as needed to assure that there is sufficient evidence and the respondent is not unduly hailed to court,” the DOJ stated.

Apart from the NBI charges, the vice president is also facing an impeachment trial.

The fourth impeachment complaint against the vice president was approved by the House on the last day of its session before recess on February 5, 2025, wherein a total of 215 lawmakers signed the petition, which was filed the same day, surpassing even two-thirds of the lower chamber’s 306 members.

The articles of impeachment were sent to the Senate on the same day, however, the body has adjourned until June 2, 2025.
