Pacquiao pushes for nuclear power, fiber optic tech to solve energy woes

Former Senator Manny Pacquiao is pushing for a bold and long-term solution to the country’s persistent power supply issues—nuclear energy and fiber optic technology.

Pacquiao emphasized  that unreliable power is a major obstacle to economic growth, discouraging investors from setting up businesses in the Philippines.

“That’s our number one problem—power supply. Investors hesitate to come in because of it. Frequent brownouts are a big disadvantage to businesses,” he said.

To address this, Pacquiao advocates for the revival and establishment of nuclear power plants, citing the example of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.

“If we continue at this slow pace, our country’s development will be even slower than a turtle’s,” he remarked, pointing out how progressive nations prioritize stable and sufficient power supply.

Beyond power, Pacquiao also underscored the need to modernize the country’s digital infrastructure. He proposed replacing outdated internet infrastructure with fiber optic cables, especially in highly urbanized cities, to ensure fast and stable connectivity.

Pacquiao believes that  fiber optic technology can revolutionize power transmission by ensuring faster, more efficient, and stable energy distribution across the region.

Unlike traditional copper wiring, fiber optics minimize energy loss, reduce maintenance costs, and improve overall power infrastructure resilience.

“We need to upgrade our fiber optic network nationwide so that we won’t have connectivity problems.  This is part of the solution to ensure stable power and communication systems,” he added.

With his vision of combining nuclear energy and advanced technology, Pacquiao aims to position the Philippines for economic progress and global competitiveness.

With this forward-thinking approach, Pacquiao aims to push for innovative energy solutions that will unlock Mindanao’s full economic potential.
