ID WAIT OVER Nat’l ID registration begins September

Beginning September, Dabawenyos can register for National Identification (ID) cards.

Philippine Statistics Authority XI Regional Director Ruben D. Abaro, Jr.

“Everybody will be entertained”, Philippine Statistics Authority XI Regional Director Ruben D. Abaro, Jr. said in an interview. “As for priorities, we will give priority to the IPs, Senior citizens and the likes. But again, everybody will be entertained and given the opportunity to register”, he added.

“The Central office is in the process of completing the requirements before the registration in September”, Abaro said.

Abaro, who is confident of the success of the upcoming registration, further highlighted that PSA XI is currently awaiting the distribution of registration kits that will help them capture the biometrics and demographic information of every registrant. As of today, there is no final number of registration kits allotted for the Davao Region.

One registration kit is said to accommodate 50 persons daily.

When asked for the target number of registrats, Abaro explained, “I cannot provide the exact

number ngayon. We need to know the number of registration kits na ibibigay sa atin for us to provide you with the exact data.”

PSA XI will be utilizing two registration methods – the fixed registration centers and the other, mobile registration wherein PSA XI will visit barangays to capture individual information. The latter will be

made possible through coordination with LGUs and barangay officials to set up.

Abaro shared that one issue that they are looking into is the upsurge of registrars once the registration begins. “Siguro yung biglang pasok ng maraming tao kasi gusto kaagad nilang magkaroon ng card”, he emphasized. “And we are preparing for that”, he added.

Abaro further added, “I think, in my personal opinion, citizens now want to have only one ID. And that is what we are aiming — by 2020, it will be the whole country that will have a National Id card”.

As of writing, the agency is still in the process of arranging and planning the details of the upcoming registration.
