Recycling competition showcases upland youth org’s ingenuity

The Mt. Tipolog Bantay Kinaiyahan Association (MTBKA) Youth, a community partner of IDIS, joined the  Davao City Water District and Watershed Management Youth Council’s Inter-barangay Recylaband and Trash to Style Competition last June 1, 2013 at the Abreeza Ayala  Mall.
The MTBKA joined 17 other contestants as they walked the runway wearing clothes designed with the Philippine Eagle as inspiration and crafted from recyclable materials found in their communities.
The eco-fashion show also incorporated a band contest which showcased five groups singing an original song about the environment and using recyclable materials as part of their musical instruments.
MTBKA’s  Jessa Mae  Bolasito,sixteen years old,  placed third runner up. She wore  a gown and  cloak made of corn husks.  Corn is one of the dominant crops being grown in Bulasito’s community of Tawantawan at the foot of Mt. Tipolog in Baguio District.
