DON’T make the mistake of thinking they are the For Him Magazine (F.H.M.) models.
Oh, no.
Five years ago, these golfers formed a group called Hampaslupa, and every weekend, they meet at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club to enjoy each other’s company, share jokes and talk a bit about the businesses they are in.
When the Palos Club organized the Dynasty Cup, the Hampaslupa was renamed Foundation ng mga Hampaslupa at Maharlika, or F.H.M. for short.
“The word Maharlika came about because our sponsor happens to be Mr. Vic Lao, whose company is called Maharlika Agri-Ventures,” said team captain Paul Garcia.
F.H.M. is composed of assistant team captain Oscar Rebosura, Wilfredo Maldia, Milton Liu, C.K.Chang, Romy Garcia, Marlon Hager, Lito Gutierrez, Gilberto Calixto, Liezel Apitan and Louie Rabat.
Despite having high-handicappers in the line-up, like Lao with 24 and Apitan, 32, F.H.M. pulled off a surprise and lifted Dynasty Cup by beating first runner-up Eagle Master A and second runner-up Tang Dynasty.
“What we just did was simply enjoy the game and we enjoyed the tournament even more when we won,” said Garcia.
He added that he enjoyed the company of the team which is a combination of senior and young players in different classes.
“Hindi na man talaga mga magagaling na golfers kami. Matataas nga ang mga handicap but it just so happened that we jelled together and we won,” said the team captain.
In the meantime, Paul said, they will continue to see each other on weekends, enjoy the sport and hopefully, in the next tournament, winning another title and laugh about it to their heart’s delight. [Moses P. Billacura]
