Steve Sur Grandeza will carry Davao City’s and Team Gan Soo Do’s colors when he enters the ring as one of the undercards of the Kunlun K8 Fight 4 World Tour on April 27 at the Solaire Resort Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
He faces countryman and veteran Jessie Salvador after talks bogged down for him to fight either a Chinese or Australian fighter this year.
The World Kickboxing Federation super welterweight K1 champion has been training for months in the high-altitude areas of the Bukidnon-Davao boundary with coaches Jerry Fornolles, Jojo Gatmaitan, Noel Penales and other staff and has reached the peak of his training.
Grandeza said World Boxing Council (WBC) Muay Thai vice chairman Tony Reyes has given him another opportunity to fight again which he is excited and has prepared well for it. Plans are also in place to keep him in the fighting circle and this will also depend on the terms of the bouts.
“Mr.Tony Reyes personally contacted me for the fight and I am honored to be part of the competition,” said Grandeza, who also received backing from Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, city sports chief William “Butch” Ramirez and the mayor’s executive assistant Christopher “Bong” Go.
The World Tour fights are promoted by World Team USA, sanctioned by the World Boxing Council, produced by Kunlun Fight in cooperation with Max Muay Thai Philippines, Kunsun Media, Qinghai TV, Kulunjue TV, GPNTV, Robust, Trust Condoms and ABS-CBN.(mpb)
