Bugsay Festival in Davao Or

The Bugsay Dabaw and the Municipal Government of San Isidro is staging a 3-day boat paddling event dubbed as the 1st Mayor Tina Yu Invitational Bugsay Festival on June 23 to 25 in San Isidro town in Davao Oriental.

Race director Danilo “Jun” Bacus, president of Bugsay Dabaw, said there will be competition for recreational kayaks, Bangka and Vinta boats.

The kayaking will have categories in the Male Single, Female Single, All-Male Tandem, All-Female Tandem and Mixed Tandem.

The banka race is exclusively for residents of San Isidro only. It will have a Tandem for Couple, Male Single and Female Single.

“The Lawig Vinta is open to all,” said Bacus.

The champion will win P5,000 while the second and third placers will earn P4,000 and P3,000, respectively.

The cash prizes in the kayak’s singles are P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 in that order while in the Tandem for all-male and all-female are P5,000, P4,000 and P3,000. The top three winners in the Mixed Tandem will pocket P7,500, P5,000 and P2,500.

The Bugsayan for locals will have P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 in the Tandem Couple. The singles will get P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000.

Meanwhile, there will also be the Lutong Baybayon (open cooking contest), Kite Flying (Tabanog ni Sidro) and the Search for Ginoong and Binibining Bugsayan.

Registration fee is P200 per head with entitles already the participant to join in all categories and competitions.

The entry fee includes a singlet, activity ID, one meal and snack on June 24 and 25.

“We will also have a live band during the socials with one free bottle of beer,” said Bacus.

The event is powered by the Mindanao Mountaineering Community (MMC), Mountaineering Federation of Southern Mindanao (MFSM) and the Hamiguitan Mountaineering Club (Hamocs) of San Isidro.
