SAN ISIDRO, Davao Oriental — Team Amihan of Mati City won four categories in kayaking to rule the first Mayor Tina Yu Bugsayan Festival over the weekend.
Amihan’s Peter Alvin Ocdenaria clocked 41.52 seconds to rule the Men’s Open Singles event. Local bet Regie Bandoquillo (41.87) of Barangay Baon place second followed in third by veteran Walter Escolor (49.50) of GABON.
Crowd-favorite Iyay Montebon also of Amihan topped the distaff side with a time of 46.65. She was followed by 14-year old Lovely Mae Montebon (50.84) of CARE Group from Digos City. Finishing third was Amihan’s Lang-Lang Apordo (51.18).
Ocdenaria later combined with Bebe Guineta for 47.01 to win the Mixed Expert category. Finishing second was the pair of Kampilan’s Dennes Cubelo and Ma Mordiz Morales at 47.17 followed by GABON’s Escoltor and his wife Marian at 57.24.
Ocdenaria also paired with team captain Winston Plaza to win the Men’s Tandem at 40.09. Baon’s Elvin Caragao and Alvito de Castro (40.30) placed second followed by the father-and-son duo of George and Viiresh Garcia of CARE (56.15).
CARE’s Weng Pacaldo and Bangbang Gomez (1:01.93) topped the Women’s Tandem followed by the mother-and-daughter team of Ma. Theresa and Therese Merry Mahusay of HADAMS at 1:02.91.
Third was the pair of Amihan’s Magbago and Jane Paulino at 1:17.01.
Meanwhile, Elvin Casragao and Rowena Raman emerged champions in the local banca race.
Casragao (41.54) topped the men’s singles followed by Obba Turaji (44.38) and Sixto Pelegrino (46.66) in that order. Raman (1:03.64) of San Isidro Municipal Tourism Office won the women’s singles followed by Rosemarie Destreza (1:04.43) and reigning Mutya ng Kalikasan title-holder Darlene Bunguelo (1:21.72).
Nods Andi and Cid Hassan (39.78) won the Mixed Tandem followed by Bandoquillo and Destreza (47.57). Third was the duo of Rama and Rojay Camoza (1:28.32).
San Isidro Mayor Tina Yu and organizer Jun Bacus of Bugsay Dabaw awarded the cash prizes, trophies and medals to the winners.
