The World Boxing Organization (WBO) said Jeff Horn indeed beat Manny Pacquiao.
In a statement early Tuesday (Philippine Time), the boxing body declared that Horn rightfully won his now controversial match against Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight championship on July 2 in Brisbane, Australia following a review of the fight.
In the said recount, five anonymous judges were summoned to conduct their own independent judging of the said match.
After the fight review, one of the judges had it 115-113 Horn, while two others gave identical 114-113 scores favoring Horn.
A fourth judge had it 114-113 Pacquiao, while the last judge scored a 114-114 draw.
The lone judge that gave Pacquiao the win and the two others that scored 114-113 Horn wins gave Pacquiao a 10-8 score in Round 9.
After a tabulation that will determine which fighter won each round based on 60, 80, and 100 percent average scales, that is, at least three judges should agree for a certain pug to take a certain round, Horn won seven rounds, while Pacquiao got five.
Afterwards, the independent judges’ scores were combined with those of Waleska Roldan, Chris Flores, and Ramon Cerdan, the actual judges of the bout.
The new tabulation saw Horn winning six rounds, Pacquiao getting four, and two rounds, Rounds 10 and 11, being swing rounds.
The review was conducted upon request of Games and Amusement Board, which was looking for transparency especially with Roldan giving what was thought as a dubious 117-111 win for Horn.
The said fight review process was also used in another controversial Pacquiao fight, his first meeting with Tim Bradley, and was also used in the review of the fight between Chris Algieri and Ruslan Provodnikov. (Ivan S. Saldajeno/PNA)
