BACOLOD CITY–Taking off from where its Seniors team left, the Rancho Palos Verdes men’s squad was off to a good start in the first day of the 71st Philippine Airlines Interclub Men’s Tournament here.
Playing under torching heat in Marapara’s Negros Occidental GCC, the RPV parbusters got an aggregate 93 points to stay in fourth place overnight in the Aviator Division.
The Cabantian-based swingers were led by youthful EJ Casintahan with 26 points and backed up by Ninot Galicia with 24, Vincent Gumapac with 23 and Leo Yap with 20 points.
RPV won the Sportswriters Division title of the Seniors Interclub last Saturday.
Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club took advantage of its course familiarity with a scorching 105 points to open its campaing on a high note.
The other Davao Clubs in the same division–Apo Golf and Country Club and Davao City Golf and Country Club–were mired a few notches lower. Apo ranked ninth with 75 while Davao City Golf is at 8th with 74.
Over at Binitin’s treacherous Bacolod Golf and Country Club, the Lanang boys pooled together 71 points in a tie with fellow Mindanao entry Iligan Golf and Country Club at sixth.
Mark Villorente had team-best 19 points in the PAL scoring system for Lanang. He was backed up by Raymund Salvador and Robert Plana with 18 points each added up with Danny Gotera’s 16 points.
Leading in the Friendship Division is Bay Area Golf Org with 88 points.
