CLEAN SLATE: POC and PSC: The`inconvenient marriage’

Clean Slate: Moses P Billacura

We were taking the Philippine Airlines(PAL) flight when I saw on board a low-profile official (yes, low profile, despite his being very close to Mayor Digong, the President).  So we started talking about Philippine sports.

The official expressed his concern because the gentleman manning the Philippine Sports Commission, chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, is a very good friend.

“Naku, ang daming problema doon,” the official said.

The official was particularly concerned with the Philippine hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

You see, when you host the SEA Games, it’s actually a cooperative work between the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the PSC.

If you’ve been following the Reform Philippine Sports page on Facebook by General Charly Holganza, you will get a glimpse of how problematic the POC is.  Sometimes, we cannot help but “rename” the POC as Problematic Olympic Committee.

During our International Olympic Committee (IOC) Solidarity Movement conference that we attended many years ago, it was clear to me that there should be no government intervention in the POC, or else it will violate the Olympic Charter.

However, the PSC, being a government funding agency, has the duty to help the POC.  They are actually “married” in some sort of shape or form.    The only thing that I see right now is an “inconvenient marriage”.

I know Chairman Ramirez as a very amiable gentleman who always go the extra mile to find solutions.  Dili na siya pala away, that is his personality, that is the very reason I get so irritated by the badlongons, and I feel it is my duty to bark at badlongons, bahalag masuko mo.  We should always think and work for the welfare of the sports community.

The sad thing, we hear this infighting up to now.  The Reform Philippine Sports movement leaders are currently working very hard, calling to weed out the badlongons in Philippine sports.   Kunuhay, sports leader sila, unya ang kaayuhan sa mga atleta ang dili man di ay ma una. Paita.

A source said that yes, Mr.Vargas is the new president of the POC, however, there are still Peping Cojuangco boys in the Committee.  Of course, these guys won’t resign.  If they are concern about unity and justice in sports, the honorable thing to do is to resign and allow Mr.Vargas to smoothly run the POC.

Sadly, dili uso nang resign resign sa POC oi.  They would stick to their posts, bahalag walay klaro silang kontribusyon sa kaayohan sa sports development sa nasud.

In my previous columns, I was even calling for a stop to allocating government funds for POC-related events.  Just use that money for a genuine sports program like the Children’s Games and Sports For Peace.  Sigeg gasto ang government, dah!  Let us instead invest our resources to the Filipino children in sports.

Naa pay pag-asa ang mga bata na nasud, ang POC diha sa Manila, nah! Ambot lang.

POC-PSC Cooperation for the upcoming SEA Games?  Nah! Maayo pag way SEA Games hosting oi!  Sa logo palang gihimo sa SEA Games, na controversial na because the news reports said that millions of pesos were spent for making that logo that looks like an advertising design for a tire company. Murag gaya gaya, puto maya.

Unless the POC is cleaned up, the PSC will be facing problems all the time.

So I’m calling everyone to support Gen.Holganza and the Reform Philippine Sports Movement and let us save Philippine sports development!
