After the annihilation of loud-mouthed Keith Thurman, the adulation for the legend that is Manny Pacquiao is swinging to another subject matter. Quite the way it used to in typical day-after barbershop talks. Money.
On social media, a post announces Manny is giving away a share of his winnings to everyone who responds to the post. Obviously, that was a dubious account, but that too, is typical day-after scams.
But let’s put everything on the table. So how much did Manny earn from the Thurman fight?
Well, based on the fight deal, Manny reportedly was to earn a guaranteed $10 million (that is PHP510,050,000.00) and Thurman $2.5 million. In reality though, both men will earn far more. Manny could be taking home over $20 million (PHP1.02 billion) and Thurman closer to $8 million for his efforts.
So, if Manny would be crazy enough to do the social media giveaway, sign up quick. It’s way better than the PCSO’s lotto and STL which have been stopped by President Digong for alleged massive corruption in the agency.
Count Manny’s money?
How about the pay-per-view buys?
The Nevada State Athletic Commission revealed that the July 20 PBC on FOX pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas drew a live gate of $6,260,275 (estimated PHP319.3 million) with 11,436 tickets sold. While there were 1,675 complimentary tickets handed out for the event, that is still short of the attendance announced during the show which was 14,356. The pay-per-view reportedly generated in the neighborhood of 500,000 buys.
That may not be his biggest paycheck of his boxing career but at 40 years old, Manny is still the biggest money-making machine in boxing with rival Floyd Mayweather out of the picture.
Now, Manny is reportedly not immediately going back to the ring until the end of the year. Anyone not named Manny Pacquiao who has earned that much is safe throughout his entire life.
But Manny is Manny and the lure of the ring, his legend and legacy notwithstanding, is enough motivation.
And we’re not even talking about the money yet.
