Kadayawan cagefest dangles P240K in prizes

A whopping P240,000 total prize pot is at stake in the 2019 Kadayawan Invitational basketball tournament which gets going on August 11-14.

The De La Salle University Green Archers will try to defend their title in the 2019 Kadayawan Invitational basketball tournament. 

The annual cagefest is the city’s biggest basketball event held each year as one of the major sports featured events of the Kadayawan Festival.

This year’s four-team hoopfest features four of the country’s top varsity squads in the UAAP (Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines) and the CESAFI (Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc.).

Bannering the UAAP side are defending Kadayawan champion De La Salle University Green Archers and the National University (NU) Bulldogs.

At stake are P100,000 for the champion, P60,000for the first runner-up, P40,000 for the second runner-up and P30,000 for the third runner-up.

The best coach and most valuable player (MVP) will receive P5,000 each.

Tournament commissioner Miggy Solitaria said the participating teams are expected on August 11 in time for a tournament briefing at 12:00 pm at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.

Games are set at 5pm for the first game and 7pm for the featured game.

The Opening Ceremonies is set at 4:30 pm on August 11.

“Officiating will be done by the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) with one Manika-based referee and two locals officiating the games,” said Solitaria.

SBP 11 regional director said the tournament will be open free to the public.

The SBP-sanctioned event is backed up by The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Mania Enclaves, SBP 11, Davao City Sports Development Office, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte and special guest Rep. Paolo Duterte.
