MPBA Women’s Championship kicks off Nov. 23

The Magilas Pilipinas Basketball Association (MPBA) seeks to discover more talents in the Women’s Championship, which will start on Nov. 23 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The participating teams are Eastside, Sunday Rim Hoopers, Amarix Baller, Shape & Shades, Elijah, Cyubico, Calamba Hoopers and Philippine Christian University.

“There are many leagues for women but there are also many talents who need the opportunity to show their skills,” said MPBA founder Fernando ‘Kotz’ Arimado during the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports, Inc. (TOPS) ‘Usapang Sports’ on Thursday at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Conference Room in Malate, Manila.

“With this league, we can help the national association discover new talents who can join future Philippine team,” he added.

Registration is still open to those who want to gain more experience in competitive basketball.

“Our referees have been part of big leagues so we can expect a orderly and systematic program,” said Arimado, who was joined in the weekly sports forum by league technical committee head Allan Maronilla and coaches Rica Francisco and Jons Madriaga.

“Women’s basketball has come a long way. Unlike before when I was playing, games now have full coverage and there are also pro leagues. Hopefully, this league will help our women players aspire to become professional in the future,” said Francisco. (PNA)
