Almost 100 people from different organizations gathered in front of Freedom Park on Friday to celebrate the National Day of Unity and Rage Against the Hero’s Burial for Marcos even as they assailed the “sneaky” burial of former Philippine president at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The protesters represented organizations from different schools such as the Ateneo de Davao University, University of the Philippines Mindanao, Assumption College of Davao, to name a few. Other organizations also present were the Konsensya Dabaw and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan). Franciscan and Redemptorist brothers were also frontliners in the protest.

“This is to raise awareness of the people to demand for justice for the social injustices during the Marcos regime,” said Sheena Duazo, spokesperson of Bayan in Southern Mindanao.

She said that their organization and this protest aims to awaken the nationalism among Davaoenos especially since the current President hails from the city.

She added that build up activities and social media played a big role in mobilizing the younger generation for the event.

“The issue isn’t just about the burial but the injustices prevalent until today,” Duazo stressed.

National Democratic Front consultant Proferio Tuna, who also graced the event, also stated that the protest is “for the people to demand the Marcoses to speak of their crimes.”

“He is a facist, a dictator, and a thief of the Filipinos’ property. He is no hero,” Tuna stressed.

Tuna called on President Duterte to unite with the Filipinos who are asking for justice instead of being in solidarity with the Marcoses.

“The peace talks are more important now than ever. We must stop the culture of fascism,” he pointed out.
