The Department of Education has presented the outstanding “We Advocate Time Consciousness and Honesty” (WATCH) schools award to Tagum City National Comprehensive High School in Davao del Norte for its religious promotion of punctuality and honesty.
The education department, along with the Junior Chamber International Senate Philippines, and other government and non-government agencies, launched Project WATCH in 2008 to promote punctuality and honesty as essential to success in a person’s daily life.
Department of Education Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali has reminded learners to imbibe the values of punctuality and honesty to prepare them better for their future and the betterment of the nation.
Umali, during the awarding of Search for the Outstanding We Advocate Time Consciousness and Honesty (WATCH) Schools, highlighted the significance of this advocacy in inculcating the learners with proper values which promote self-respect and respect for other people’s time.
He added that the concept of punctuality and being honest are fundamental values that everyone should recognize and that all should all instill in the minds of our youth.
“What we are inculcating in the minds of children today will be reflected thirty or forty years from now, as a lawyer, doctor, engineer, dentist or any profession they have chosen in the future,” Umali stated in Filipino.
DepEd assistant secretary Tonisito Umali noted that the two values are vital to the future professions of students. “The concept of punctuality and honesty are basic values that we should all recognize, and that we should all instill in the minds of our youth,” he said in a release issued Thursday.
“We don’t merely teach children, we develop the awareness of those who will make up our strong and excellent country in the future,” Umali added.

Furthermore, Umali emphasized that aside from honing the learners to become better citizens of this nation, this effort also leads to the development of a stronger country.
“What we do today and the schools are not only teaching children; we are shaping the consciousness of the people who create a stable, efficient, and great country in the future,” Umali added.
The three best Project WATCH school implementers are Tagum City National Comprehensive High School, Sto. Niño Elementary School in Bulacan, and Cabarroguis National School of Arts and Trades in the Province of Quirino.
The Project WATCH, launched in 2008, aims to undertake effective programs, projects, and other activities to enhance the importance of punctuality and honesty as elements of success in our daily lives. The DepEd, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Philippines, and other government and non-government agencies are campaigning for this initiative.
