The City Social services and Development Office has assisted an 88 year old mother, Candida Ramas and her 49 year old daughter, Rhodora who is suffering from polio and cerebral palsy.
The two were living alone in their shanties beside the house of Candida’s grandson Benjamine Montallana.
The family survive daily through her monthly pension worth P2,200 coming from the Social Security Services . But most times, they lacked food.
The situation of Candida and Rodora was discovered after a netizen posted their video on Facebook after the burial of Candida’s son in law.
The two were videoed having a conversation while Rodora cheerfully sings to her mother.
A day after the video was posted online, the CSSDO immediately located the mother and daughter to assist them of their needs.
Social Worker Maria Josephine Torres said that they need to check the health condition of the two to provide them of what they really need. Candida and Rodora are scheduled to have their check up in Friday morning.
“They were supposed to have their check up immediately however, the mother requested us that we will just schedule it in Friday since she was still overwhelmed of the sudden help that they are receiving,” Torres said.
She said that they need to check if Rodora’s condition can be better through therapy session to help improve her mobility.
“As what we can see, there is no need for us to put them in a center since it will separate them, the grandson, Benjamine promised to look after them,” she said.
Montallana said that he is willing to look after her grandmother and aunt however, he worries about their condition since he and his wife left their house early in the morning to work.
The CSSDO though committed to look after Candida and Rodora to provide their needs regularly.
