The P2.5Billion Lanang Premiere Doctors Hospital, Inc. the hospital component of Megaworld Corporation’s Davao Park District township project, is seen to be an environment-friendly hospital according to its principal designer.
Architect Rafael O. Tayactac said during the LPDHI groundbreaking ceremony at Lanang, Davao City on Tuesday that the medical facility will be constructed as a “green building” as willed by LPDHI chairman of the board and PNS Land Development, Inc. president Lemuel R. Podador.
Tayactac explained resources will be used efficiently to equitably meet the developmental and environmental needs of the present and future generations.
Eyed to be a high-end medical resort-type of facility, occupants of LPDHI will benefit from improved indoor environmental quality, which promises higher productivity and better comfort.
“Kasi ang target ni sir (Podador) is to squeeze ang cost para barato mahatag sa tao. Mao na iyahang goal (The chair wanted to squeeze the cost so that it will be affordable to the people. That is his goal.)”, said Tayactac.
He identified some features of LPDHI which will qualify it as a green building such as positioning the rooms in such ways that it will not be directly hit by sunlight, constructing windows that will enable natural ventilation, utilization of solar panels for power, using recycling sewage treatment plants that will utilize wastewater in restrooms, and installation of chilled water system for cooling the whole facility.
“The equipment is costly but lower operational cost in the long run,” said Tayactac.
The Green Building Code, a Referral Code of the National Building Code (Presidential Decree No. 1096), was launched on June 25, 2015 by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), with the assistance of the World Bank-IFC, and the technical support of the Philippine Green Building Initiative (PGBI).
The general provisions of the Code provide for the protection of the people from the harmful effects of climate change. The Code seeks to improve the efficiency of building performance through a framework of standards that will enhance sound environmental and resource management to counter harmful gases, throughout the building’s life cycle, including efficient use of materials, site selection, planning, design, construction, use, occupancy, operation and maintenance, without significant increase in cost.
Meanwhile, aside from the hospital, the developer also eyes constructing a medical residence which will serve as temporary home for patients from distant provinces who will undergo long-time treatment.
According to Podador, construction of LPDHI will kick off at 2018 which will take one and a half year to two years to be completed.
“It will have a spa and other wellness programs,” said Podador who added that the facility will also include a pool and helipad.
Pioneering LIVE-WORK-PLAY-LEARN township concept, Megaworld has allocated P15-billion in the next five to seven years to build and develop Davao Park District located at S.P. Dakudao Loop in Lanang, Davao City which used to be the Lanang Golf and Country Club. Davao Park District is envisioned to be a Davao City central business district (CBD) and a major center for information technology and business process outsourcing (IT-BPO) in Mindanao.
