With the recent burning incidents of business establishments in Mindanao, the police have alerted business owners in Davao City to be vigilant in order to avoid attacks by lawless armed groups.
Police Regional Office XI Spokesperson Andrea Dela Cerna said that security forces in Mindanao have heightened their level of alertness in view of the attacks staged against Lapanday Foods Corporation in Barangay Tigatto, Davao City and the Mil-Oro Mining Corporation in Mati City where some of their facilities and equipment were burned.
“Our regional director has instructed our unit commanders to be more aggressive in securing our areas. Stations or yung mga soft targets na tinatawag. Ang mga hepe sa bawat probinsya ay nag-iikot to inform owners ng mga company for them to be alert all the time,” Dela Cerna told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday.
She also said that business owners should review their security measures in their area citing the incident in Lapanday where the security guards were disarmed by rebel groups.
“Dapat ang security guards nila should be alert 24/7. Kung mapapansin natin itong mga recent incidents natin like pagsunog sa Lapanday. Yung mga security guards kinukunan ng armas. Yung mga establishments madaling napapasok. So napagsabihan na ang mga station commander and chief of police nasabihan na nila ang mga business owners to review security especially ang kanilang ginagawa para magsecure sa kanilang area.”
Dela Cerna also called on business owners to coordinate with the police and army so that these incidents will not happen again.
“Pag may nakita silang mga suspicious personalities na paikot-ikot sa kanilang area, pati mga sasakyan, i-report immediately so that the police can take action. Importante ang pagiging vigilant ng ating mga mamamayan.”
Rebel group New People’s Army set Lapanday Foods Corporation plant in Barangay Tigatto, Davao City on April 29 and rendered almost 1,000 workers jobless. On May 6, same rebel group perpetrated the attack on Mil-Oro Mining Corporation, destroying over P109 million worth of equipment in Mati City.
