Six days after the declaration of Martial Law by President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said the city of Davao has yet to receive an evacuee seeking relief from the conflict in Marawi City.
The mayor revealed this on Monday, adding there is also no evacuee center prepared in Davao City for the possible influx of evacuees.
Instead, she said the local city government is “planning to send relief goods to Iligan City” once the safety of the volunteers and the relief goods has been assured.
“Anytime pwede ta magpalakaw ug relief goods ug mga tao, ang atoa lang is ang safety, [which] to be discussed with the Armed Forces of the Philippines” said Mayor Sara.
She said that much as they do not want to cause nuisance to the operation of the AFP, there is still need to deliver the relief goods with the assistance of the armed forces.
So far, Mayor Sara said that there is no evacuee camp in the City. She added that, probably, those who have come to Davao City from places of Marawi and/or Iligan were welcomed by their relatives who are living in the City.
“Tanan ta diri sa Davao City, dili lang ang local government, aduna tay moral obligation na modawat ug bakwit” as Mayor Sara said.
