The fish vendor who died due to injuries incurred from an improvised explosive device (IED) believed triggered by elements of the rebel New People’s Army was put to his resting place Thursday afternoon.
Larry Timbal Buenafe, 34, was the victim of the IED blast on April 29, the day the rebels torched the box and plastic plant of Lapanday Foods Corp.
Buenafe’s wife, Rose recalled that Larry was just in his usual routine when he left home for work. It was a day after their 9th wedding anniversary.
Rose said that Larry was her everything and letting him go is painful especially for their 2 children who still wishes to see their father someday.
“My son told me that we should keep all his awards from school so that we can show it to his father when we meet him again someday,” Rose said.
Rose said that her husband did everything to give his children the best in life; he wishes to see his two children finish their studies through his hard work.
“He always strive hard for our daily survival, he would wake up as early as 3AM to work and even sleep late at night just to ensure that he can sustain the needs of our family,” she said.
During the day of the incident, Mayor Sara Duterte was the one who broke the news to Rose.
For her part, Mayor Duterte wishes that Larry will rest in peace.
“When a civilian dies because of an IED blast, he is never a victim. We cannot demand justice. #Propagandalangyan sabi niyo, and we are not allowed to grieve,” Mayor Duterte posted on her Instagram account.
It has also reached to the Mayor’s attention that the funeral house where the two dead bodies of the NPA was brought sent a bill to the city government.
The mayor though did not say if the city government will shoulder the funeral expenses of the two rebels.
As of this writing there were still no claimants of the two bodies.
