Sara on EU grants: Follow the President

Says office will look into programs funded by EU

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio has expressed her full support to the President Duterte’s order not to accept grants from the European Union(EU).

On Friday, the mayor said that the decision is the call of the executive department (Malacanang).

“It really depends on the executive department on how they want to form the independent foreign policy,” Duterte-Carpio said. “Kita, diri sa siyudad sa Davao, as long as we do our duties as a local government, we will just leave the policy to the national government.”

Last week, president Duterte approved the recommendation of the Department of Finance to reject EU grants that would allow them to interfere with the internal policies of the country.

For the city, Duterte-Carpio said that she will check with the City Social Services and Development Office if there are projects in Davao funded by the EU.

“I have to check with the CSSDO kung dunay projects nga naa diri sa Davao funded by the EU. We will wait for the decision of the granting agency kung naa man diri sulod sa Davao city.”

The mayor also said that if there are any projects that would be affected by the president’s order, she will await the decision of the granting agencies.

“Well, nagsulti na man ang atoang presidente nga ingon ana iyang direction so we will just have to follow through the line. Anyway, kung duna man gyuy projects nga maapektuhan, tan-awon nato kung unsa ang pwede nga intervention gikan sa local government and the national government agencies.”
