PH tourism stakeholders in biz  mission to Japan

A 70-member delegation, composed of 40 private sector companies and government agencies, has flown to Japan to conduct a Philippine Business Mission from June 26 to 29.

Initiated by the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the PBM is a venue for stakeholders to hold business-to-business (B2B) meetings with their Japanese counterparts.

The delegation includes representatives from four travel and tour companies, 34 hotel and resort properties and two airlines.

The government side includes DOT Undersecretary Benito C. Bengzon, Jr., DOT Assistant Secretary Maria Luisa L. Japson, Tourism DOT Attache Leona Nepomuceno, TPB Department Manager Maricon Ebron, and PRA General Manager Bienvenido Chy.

PBM includes a Tourism Seminar to provide updates on products and other developments, a Travel Mart where brief one-on-one meetings are set and a cocktail reception for follow-through networking and socialization.

The three-day event brings the interaction to Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo, tapping around 400 top travel agents in those respective cities. The Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) is likewise represented.

DOT Sec. Wanda Teo, in a statement, said that the PBM was crucial as it helped sustain interest in tourism both ways.

“In my many years as a destination management company (DMC), I found the PBM an important exercise to sustain interest of our counterparts in growing the business both ways,” Teo said in a statement. (PNA)
