Tight security has served Davao City in good stead even before Martial Law was declared for the whole of Mindanao.
With a combined force comprising of policemen, police auxiliaries and the Task Force Davao securing the peace, the crime in Davao City has been greatly reduced to 98 %.
“The security forces are doing everything possible to maintain peace and order in Davao City,” said S/Inspecor Ma. Teresita Plaza- Gaspan, public information officer of the Davao City Police Office.
The Oplan Iron city which is also known as Integrated Revitalized Operation on Neighborhood watch in the Mega City that was conceptualized by Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum added the 910 Police Auxiliary for anti-criminality assistance.
Gaspan said the increase of police visibility and authorities have given both citizens and tourists a sense of security anywhere else they go in the city.
Manang Nene, a street vendor, said she felt much safer now with the sight of policemen guarding the city. The declaration of Martial Law also played a vital role in reducing the crime rate in the city.
Gaspan said the approval of the ordinance prohibiting and penalizing the act of leaving unattended bag in public place will also make more people to be responsible with their belongings.
