The Task Force Davao intercepted a bagful of guns and ammunitions loaded in the baggage compartment of a Davao City-bound passenger bus at about 9 a.m. sources at the Davao City Police Office reported.

The contraband firearms and bullets were placed in the baggage compartment of a Bachelor Bus unit coming from Davao del Norte.

The guns and ammunitions consisted of seven caliber .45 pistols with six empty magazines and one Uzi machine pistol with magazines of bullets and a silencer.

The arms were detected by a sniffing dog used by the TFDavao team in conducting checkpoint operation in Bunawan District, particularly in sitio Licanan of barangay Lasang.

The Bachelor Bus where the illegal cargo was loaded bore Plate No. WOY 113 coming from the direction of Tagum City and bound for Davao City.

Fortunately, upon verification, the TFDavao team assigned at the checkpoint found that the bag did not contain any bomb-making components.

The check that the task force conducted caused a traffic jam in the highway at Barangay Lasang for several minutes as the task force had to be sure of the situation.

However, the team failed to find any passenger who might have been responsible of carrying the contraband goods.

The recovered firearms and ammunitions are now in the custody of Task Force Davao, it was reported. With a report by Edith T. Isidro (PIA)
