The Datu Bago Awardees Organization, Inc. is looking forward to establish a sisterhood agreement with the Republic of San Marino (in Europe) together with the National Commission on Indigenous People and Davao City Government.
“The courtship has shifted towards a beautiful and good relationship between San Marino and Davao City,” said Pilar C. Braga, DABAOI chairperson.
The Republic of San Marino sent Attaché Leonor Petra Elopano and Dr. Andrea Albani from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Davao to participate in the media launching of the Tripartite Education Project.
The Datu Bago Awardees Organization, Inc. has decided on a scholarship program for Indigenous People students on its own, giving San Marino the opening to help out.
By coincidence, Leonor Petra Elopano (member of Bayanihan Dance Co.) knew Amelia Bonifacio, a member of the board of trustees of DABAOI Chairperson.
“This is a very first time launching this project together with San Marino and first time establishing a relationship between San Marino,” said Braga during the launching of the Tripartite Education Project at Royal Mandaya Hotel on Tuesday.
The Datu Bago Awardees Organization, Inc., National Commission in Indigenous Peoples and the Republic of San Marino recently signed an agreement to support this project on February 9, 2017 in Davao City for an educational project for IP students.
The agreement was signed by Jean Henri D. Lhuillier, Consulate General of San Marino in the Philippines; Atty. Geroncio Aguio ,NCIP Chair in Region XI and Guillermo P. Torres, Jr., chairman of the DBAOI.
“We are truly grateful for generosity of San Marino in giving us educational assistance for our IP truly this is a long way for helping to empower our IP especially our students, so what makes this friendship truly wonderful, is the fact that even if the San Marino is the smallest city republic in the world with only 33,537 people, it definitely has a big heart,” said Braga,
Braga added that San Marino is one of the world’s oldest republics. Its constitution enacted in 1600 remains the world’s oldest constitution still in use.
“In our talk of the city mayors office through Atty. Zuleika Lopez we are already talking about international events that would be held in Davao city, of bringing together different countries all over the world, expanding the scholarship for IP students , and coming up with cultural exchanges aside from culture we were also talked about economic benefits development of the city,” she said.
