The Bureau of Fire Protection in Davao City revealed on Wednesday that six out of eight fires recorded in a three-day span were traced to electrical short circuit or were electrically-related.

The fires incurred a total P2.5 million damages from April 1 to 3, according to Davao City Fire District spokesperson Sr. Fire Office (SFO) 2 Ramil Gillado during the AFP-PNP Press Corps media briefing on Wednesday.

Gillado said that based on their record of these incidents, the fire incident along Del Carmen, Seaside 2 in Matina Aplaya on Tuesday inflicted P900,000 worth of damages in terms of 25 structures destroyed.

The fire that originated from the house of Erlito Valentin was positively traced to electrical short circuit. This was followed by the incident in front of Tibungco Public on the same day that incurred P800,000 damages to properties that included five commercial buildings, a Christian church a parlor and a tailor shop partially destroyed.

The origin of the fire came from Rick’s Ukay-ukay attributed to ‘unattended cooking.’ The incident in Pag-asa, Bankerohan also razed P500,000 from the 31 structures in the area which consisted of stalls and houses.

Electrical short circuit is also blame for the fire that started in the house of Abdulmajid Jaladil. Another fire incident also took place in the same place in Bankerohan in which store of a certain Mary Jean Ogang was razed and claimed P300,000 damages.

This also cause by electrical short circuit. Then, a portion of Southern Philippines Medical Center was also burned due to overheated air condition which claimed P4,000 damages.

The other three fire incidents did not claimed any cost of damages. These incidents includes grass fire in Barangay Baliok, explosion of electric service entrance post of the Davao City Hall of Justice and electric post fire in Matina Aplaya which happened all on April 1.

Gillado urged the people to be more cautious especially on their use of electrical appliances. In the fire incidents happened in the residential area, most of the possible cause of electrical short circuit is the flying connection.

“The Bureau of Fire Protection has no jurisdiction to conduct inspection to the houses who have flying connections and we will just learn it after the investigation of the fire incident,” he said. He said the BFP is just making information and education campaign in the barangays to make them aware of the preventive measures of fire
