The newly-crowned Hiyas sa Kadayawan winners vowed to strengthen the presence of the tradition and culture of the 11 tribes of Davao City on social media to educate the millennials.
Beauty Rose Gandarosa from the Maranao tribe was crowned Hiyas sa Kadayawan; Aleza Bangasin (Kagan), Hiyas sa Panaghiusa; and Krezyl Joy Ungab (Bagobo-Klata), Hiyas sa Kalambuan during the grand coronation at the RMC Petro Gazz Arena, Davao City, evening of August. 17, 2022.
“Kabalo ko lahi na ug interest ang generation karon. Tinuod na ug mapansin nako na. As “Hiyas” ang amoang role is to promote in such a way na ma-integrate namo sa interest sa mga millennials and culture and tradition. Example ma heightened namo ang engagement in terms of social media because most of the time ang mga batan-on karon dili ma-separate ang cellphone sa ilahang kamot. We might as well make use of that to our advantage. Kabalo man pud ta ang social media has its pros and cons. Amoa mabuhat gyud is as much as possible is heighten namo ang content that is culturally appropriate and accurate and one that is going to catch the attention of the millennials,” said Bangasin during I-Speak media forum on Thursday.
Bangasin advocates for inclusivity not only for the Kagan tribe but also for the 11 ethnolinguistic tribes of the city. She is advocating to educate young Dabawenyos to appreciate culture.
“May aim is to gather short stories and publish it gina-highlight ang maayong pamatasan sa bawat tribu. Kato na mga libro hopefully ma distribute sa mga daycare centers and kami as “Hiyas” mabasa namo ang mga stories para ma-relay namo sa mga kabatan-onang Dabawenyos para kabalo na sila mu -respeto sa bawat tradition sa 11 tribes,” she said.
Meanwhile, other candidates in the competition are Emelyn Armodia (Ata); Leizly May Mendoza (Bagobo-Tabagawa); Dianaruth Campong (Matigsalug); Lady Ray Banga-an (Obu-Manuvu) Erika Kandog (Iranun); Jiara Mae Sakal (Maguindanaon); Sitti Rohilmina Emani (Sama) and Maisara Mendoza (Taosug).
