The Public Safety, Security and Command Center of Davao city on Thursday assured business investors and tourists they have nothing to fear about the declaration of Martial Law in the whole of Mindanao.
“Tourists and investors should realize that Martial Law does not target people,” explained Ret. Gen. Benito de Leon, PSSSCC chief. “In fact, it makes Davao more secured from lawless elements out to sow havoc.”
De Leon gave the assurance following reports that guests and tourists bound for Davao City are cancelling their reservations in certain hotels after the declaration of Martial Law.
De Leon added that tourists should not panic, but rather feel safe because the police are on their Red Alert level, which means that security forces will be tight in the City.
He also said that Martial Law should be treated as a welcome development for the people of Davao, rather than something to be afraid of.
The PSSCC Chief called the public to correct the notion that Martial law will make the lives of Mindanaoans miserable.
“As opposed to the worries of the people particularly outside Davao, na magiging papahirapan yung buhay natin dito, mali ‘yun. It is for the security of Mindanao. The target of this is only the criminal elements.”
Moreover, the Chief said that motorists should expect tight security especially in check points because they will be conducting round the clock security at entry points of Davao.
De Leon revealed that he will meet with the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center and the Department of Tourism officers to have a discussion regarding the issue.
